How Much Could We do If
By Flavio Almeida
Jiu-Jitsu brings people together in a special way. It creates teams of people who are first associated by the common goal of mastering the art.
Relationships eventually evolve to something much more meaningful. Training partners become an extended family as we learn to trust each other on and off the mats.
Each Jiu-Jitsu school is a small powerful community. Jiu-Jitsu practitioners become people of influence leaders on other groups they are part of.
I keep thinking if we, as Jiu-Jitsu instructors and students, could do more than help each other excel in Jiu-Jitsu.
Our practice makes us so much better as human beings and yet very little is done to make that good transcend the walls of our schools.
There are 400+ GB schools worldwide. What if each one of us engaged our students and their families on a meaningful cause to help remediate a local social challenge?
That’s the ideal behind this months event promoted by Gracie Barra Association.
Embracing the spirit of giving back brought by the upcoming Holliday Season, our schools are offering a free month of training in exchange for food donations from every new student.
I know that’s just a small effort. But imagine how much can be done if we can put a fraction of the time we invest in training and competition into social projects and community work.
Jiu-Jitsu For Everyone!
