Food of the Week: Maca
Las week we released a feature on the Peruvian superfood Maca ( super food) detailing its amazing effects on the human body . Today we go to Professor and athlete Philipe Della Monica (Furão) for a healthy Maca recipe.
Those who are careful about their routine know it can get tired to monitor every single food intake. Philipe currently lives in Mission Viejo , California , and has an extremely busy routine. Wrestling, jiu jitsu tournaments, jiu jitsu seminars, working at the GB Association, teaching classes at GB Saddelback and helping Rafael dos Anjos train jiu jitsu for UFC.
It’s hard to overlook Philipe and his countless victories that earned him the highest place in the Jiu Jitsu hall of glory. Stressed out ? Never . Furão has an incredible zest for life, always helping everyone in the GB family. To better keep up with his intense routine , Philipe relies on the use of the super- food Peruvian Maca .
“I like to drink a Maca shake in the morning before my first workout. Since it can be added to juice or your favorite shake. I usually mix one tablespoon (flat) of Maca with two tablespoons of cocoa powder, and add coconut water . You can also add half a banana for thicker consistency . The taste is not the best but it makes for a light snack with great nutritional value. It’s a good alternative for people who don’t like coffee and it’s indispensable for those days when you wake up tired from the workout the previous day.
Maca Super Shake
250 ml coconut water
1 tbsp Maca Powder
2 tablespoons Cacao Powder
Place all ingredients in a blender and beat until smooth.
